The back board is a solid piece of a PE material which is 100% X-ray translucent, washable & disinfectable. This allows for the board to be used within a variety of situations. Most commonly used to prevent movement of a person within a car accident when extricating them from the vehicle or even when someone feels if they have had major spinal injury from a large fall. It is useful by the top of the board being larger then the bottom allowing space for a device called head blocks to be placed onto and secured to the board to prevent the head from moving.
